Brent James

Brent James, President and Chief Executive Officer                                         For more than 25 years, Brent James has brought success to the early stage companies he has founded or developed. His work spans diverse sectors in North America and globally, including MDI Mobile Data International and MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc., which he co-founded, as well as Abebooks.com, where he was the company’s first CEO. He is a consultant for the technology industry, an angel investor, and an undergraduate and graduate instructor in Entrepreneurship at UBC’s Sauder School of Business. He also sits on the Board of Directors for many businesses and communities. Brent holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC and an MBA from the Sloan School at MIT.

Dr. David Alton

David Alton, Chief Operating Officer
David Alton is the co-founder of Aquila Diagnostic Systems. He holds an MBA from the University of Alberta. David's career has spanned the public and private sector. He was a senior manager in the Federal Government and later moved to the University of Alberta where he was Director of Planning for the National Institute for Nanotechnology and the Director of Business Development for the Alberta Cancer Diagnostic Consortium. David has extensive experience in the micro- and nanotechnology sector as a consultant and as a founder of four spin-off technology companies from the University of Alberta.

 
 Dr. Jason Acker, Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Acker brings more than 10 years of management experience having worked on technology evaluation and process improvement projects with multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in Canada, US, Singapore and the U.K. As a medical researcher at Harvard Medical School and then the University of Alberta, Jason managed interdisciplinary research teams engaged in cutting-edge research and technology development. As a Senior Scientist and Associate Director, Development with Canadian Blood Services, Jason developed his expertise in leading multi-stakeholder project teams through complex process improvement and organizational/strategic transformations. Jason recently completed an MBA degree at the University of Alberta with a focus on technology commercialization.

David Judge

David is President and co-founder of Humford Management Inc., a commercial real estate company managing properties with a market value of approximately $1.5 Billion. In 2014, David and other shareholders negotiated the sale of the company to Canderel Enterprises, and Humford is now a Canderel company, giving both firms a national platform. David is past president of BOMA Edmonton and past Chair of BOMA Canada. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and an MBA from the University of Alberta.

 

Andrew Booth

Andrew is currently the CFO at STEMCELL Technologies in Vancouver, Canada. STEMCELL is Canada’s largest biotech company. STEMCELL has direct operations in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia and China. Prior to joining STEMCELL, Andrew spent approximately 7 years at General Electric in Koln, Paris, New York, Florence and London in a variety of positions and ending in roles leading Business Development (responsible for mergers, acquisitions and partnerships) for GE Healthcare’s Europe, Middle East, & Africa business and GE Healthcare’s Life Sciences business. 

 

Dr. Stephanie Yanow

Dr Stephanie Yanow works at the University of Alberta School of Public Health / Alberta Provincial Laboratory.
