Dr. David Alton

Geof Auchinleck
Geof has been involved in the medical device industry since the early 1980s, working on projects ranging from advanced laboratory automation systems to development of the world’s first surgical robot. He currently holds 15 US patents on inventions. In 1997, he founded Neoteric Technology Ltd., a company which provides systems for managing blood transfusion products, and which was eventually sold to Haemonetics Corporation. Geof has served as Chair for over two decades on the Board of Directors of Vancouver’s Medical Device Development Centre Association. He is also a mentor for start-up companies in the Vancouver area and with the AceTech Academy for Technology CEOs. Geof studied Engineering Physics at UBC.

Brent James

Brent James, President and Chief Executive Officer                                         For more than 25 years, Brent James has brought success to the early stage companies he has founded or developed. His work spans diverse sectors in North America and globally, including MDI Mobile Data International and MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc., which he co-founded, as well as, where he was the company’s first CEO. He is a consultant for the technology industry, an angel investor, and an undergraduate and graduate instructor in Entrepreneurship at UBC’s Sauder School of Business. He also sits on the Board of Directors for many businesses and communities. Brent holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC and an MBA from the Sloan School at MIT.

Dr. David Alton

David Alton, Chief Operating Officer
David Alton is the co-founder of Aquila Diagnostic Systems. He holds an MBA from the University of Alberta. David's career has spanned the public and private sector. He was a senior manager in the Federal Government and later moved to the University of Alberta where he was Director of Planning for the National Institute for Nanotechnology and the Director of Business Development for the Alberta Cancer Diagnostic Consortium. David has extensive experience in the micro and nanotechnology sector as a consultant and as a founder of four spin-off technology companies from the University of Alberta.


Dr. Jason Acker, Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Acker brings more than 10 years of management experience having worked on technology evaluation and process improvement projects with multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in Canada, US, Singapore and the U.K. As a medical researcher at Harvard Medical School and then the University of Alberta, Jason managed interdisciplinary research teams engaged in cutting-edge research and technology development. As a Senior Scientist and Associate Director, Development with Canadian Blood Services, Jason developed his expertise in leading multi-stakeholder project teams through complex process improvement, as well as organizational and strategic transformations. Jason recently completed an MBA degree at the University of Alberta with a focus on technology commercialization.


Nicolas Weinstein, Managing Partner at Benslie International

Mr. Weinstein is the Investment Manager at Benslie International Ltd., and a Director at Genomika Foundation. Mr. Weinstein has more than 10 years direct experience in the pharmaceutical industry holding key leadership positions. During his tenure, he has successfully executed transformational acquisitions, launched multiple products targeting physicians, and overseen greenfield start-ups. Mr. Weinstein holds an M.S. in Finance and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
